PENOSIL PU-Sealant HM 868 – High Modulus Polyurethane Sealant

PENOSIL PU-Sealant HM 868 is a high-quality, moisture-curing polyurethane sealant with high modulus and excellent mechanical resistance. It is designed for sealing and insulating heavily loaded interior and exterior joints.

The sealant cures under the influence of atmospheric moisture and forms a permanently elastic joint with strong adhesion to a wide range of substrates. It is resistant to water, cleaning agents, oils, hydrocarbons, acids and diluted alkalis. The material does not shrink in the joint and offers very good tooling and leveling properties.

PU-Sealant HM 868 also provides noise-dampening properties and is resistant to UV radiation, moisture and weather conditions. Suitable for demanding construction, industrial and transport applications.

Application & Usage

Suitable for:

• Expansion and construction joints in concrete buildings, especially floors

• Sealing welded joints

• Sealing and vibration/noise dampening in wagon and metal constructions

• Marine applications including deck construction

• Sealing glass constructions and lacquered surfaces

• Bonding panels, window sills and thresholds

• Bonding porcelain, steel, stainless steel, plastics, painted wood, concrete and brick

Application temperature: +5 °C to +35 °C.
Concrete substrates must dry for at least 4 weeks before application.

For porous substrates, application of a PU primer is recommended. For wide joints, use a backing rod to ensure correct joint geometry and to prevent three-sided adhesion. Recommended joint width: 6–40 mm. Ideal width-to-depth ratio: 2:1.

The sealant is applied using a cartridge or foil gun. Tool the surface with a rubber spatula and remove excess material.

Limitations:

• Paintable only after full cure (dispersion paints such as acrylic or vinyl)

• Paint compatibility test required

• Joint movement may cause cracking in painted surface

• Do not use below +5 °C

• Outdoor use only where winter temperature does not fall below -20 °C
